       Cigarette (Tobacco) smoking is ranked as is the largest avoidable risk factor for illness and mortality in both third world and developed countries. Today, the rate of smoking cigarettes has dramatically changed worldwide especially among teenagers, men and women as well. This Lethal habit is absolutely familiar with teenagers, lower income earners, school dropouts, and influence from peers. With the ignorance of health cautions, daily smokers assume that this practice controls moods, display higher and lower levels of stress and excitement. However, this misleading habit comes with a baggage of penalties like being at risk of causing damage to nearly every organ in the body. Smoking is fatally dangerous to both the smoker and non-smokers (passive smokers) because the inhalation of toxic fumes is enough to kill and cause different health problems to the innocent ones.

Health risks associated with smoking! Get ready for this:

The Killer Exhale

1. Cancer (lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer deaths in both men and women not excluding teenagers. It is one of those extremely difficult diseases to treat, and other types of cancer like, mouth, pharynx (throat), voice box (larynx), cervix, bladder, pancreas, stomach, rectum and Leukemia) are attributed to smoking.

2. Skin (Smoking reduces the amount of oxygen that can reach the skin, which speeds up the aging process of the skin and can make it dull and gray, ashy and dry.)

3. Reproduction and fertility (Women and men who smoke risk the burden of infertility and risking damage to the unborn baby including: premature birth, miscarriage, stillbirth, low birth weight, sudden infant death syndrome, and infant illnesses.)

4. Chronicle Bronchitis (This occurs when the airways produce too much mucus, leading to a cough. The airways then become swollen, and the cough becomes edgy which will lead to distress but quitting smoking can reduce symptoms.)

5. Immune system (The immune system protects the body against infections and disease. Smoking compromises this and can lead to auto immune diseases, such inflammation.)

6. Heart and circulation (Smoking causes plaque to build up in the blood. Plaque sticks to the walls of arteries making them narrower; this reduces blood flow and increases the risk of clotting hereafter blackouts or pass out.)

However, quitting smoking could save you from the above motioned risks because the chances of having a stroke reduces, the various types of cancers and other  related health complications drop by half within three to five years, consulting a doctor and having at least monthly medical checkups is very vital for one’s health. Generally, once someone stops smoking, their health will improve and their body will begin to recover.

Have you imagined why water is vital in our daily lives? Can you imagine life without water? There would be no life because every living thing (Human Beings, Plants, Animals, and soils) depend on water to be healthy, productive and fertile.

Not many people would argue that water is one of, if not the number one life saver for victims of  extreme conditions like natural catastrophes, accidents, extreme heat temperatures and wars (Earthquakes, Hurricanes, Shipwrecks). In such conditions, access to food gets complicated therefore water would be the best alternative for survival (drinking and the purposes of cooling  the body) .It’s estimated that you can not survive without water for much more than 3 days. In comparison, the average person can go up to 3 weeks without solid food but only drinking water.

The body consumption of fluids (Drinks like tea, coffee and juice ,Fruits like tomatoes, melons, oranges) help in quench thirst, regulate the body’s temperature, keeping the tissues in the body moist, keeping the body hydrated and healthy digestion.

One would wonder why Sodas and other related drinks like beers and energy drinks are excluded from  the “hydration dosages”. Some people even admit to drinking more soda than water each day, or no water ignoring the fact that sodas contribute to obesity. With research, consuming sugary drinks increases the risk of obesity or weight gain in children and adults, because of the sugar and high-fructose corn syrup in soda.

For the purpose of Hydration, here are some tips that can help:

  • If you have trouble remembering to drink water, drink on a schedule. For example, drink water when you wake up, at breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and when you go to bed.
  • Drink water because it’s free.
  • Drink water before, during, and after a workout or exercises.
  • At least keep a bottle of water with you during the day. To reduce your costs, carry a reusable water bottle and fill it with tap water.
  • When you’re feeling hungry, drink water. Thirst can be confused with hunger. True hunger will not be satisfied by drinking water. Drinking water may also contribute to a healthy weight-loss plan.
  • If you don’t like the taste of plain water, try adding a slice of lemon or lime to your drink it will add a preferable taste.

Water is an essential element for life. Right throughout human history water has been looked on as a gift to humankind. Human beings, animals and plants live alongside water and are nourished by water. It is a source of beauty, wonder and relaxation and refreshment. Our very contact with nature has a deep restorative power. It is no accident that people chose places associated with water for the holidays, in order to renew and regenerate themselves henceforth a vital element in our lives.

First post of 2017, first off Happy New Year, hope you’re all well, wish you all good tidings and all that whatever, now that we’ve got that out of the way, let’s get to it.

Ideally, January being the inaugural month of any new year should be a time filled with much elation, joy and good fortune, you know, like the calm before the storm, before the reality of the New Year just knocks the living daylights out of you. It’s a month that starts with much expectation, hope and a fresh perspective towards life, the month of New Years resolutions, financial plans and delightful prophecies from our Pastors. You know, rainbows and butterflies, all these are covered within the first 5 days of the month, then reality sets in.
